Choosing the right storage facility is not a task that should be taken lightly. It is important to know if your belongings are in good hands and if your unit rent is being partly spent on protecting your items. Anyone with enough financing can start a storage business, however, it takes an experienced and knowledgeable team to keep one running smoothly and theft-free. Here are a few tips on what security features to look for when selecting a facility
  • Make sure the facility is in a safe and secure environment. This may include asking about thefts, muggings, or other crimes on the property of the facility since it has been in business. Of course, some areas may be more prone to crime and violence than others, however, some facilities in the area may have a bigger problem than the rest.
  • Is the facility well lit after sunset for convenient access all hours of the day? This may be an issue if you plan to visit the facility frequently, especially during the fall and winter months when it starts to get dark by early evening.
  • You may want to find out if the facility has security cameras or an alarm system. This would help to deter break-ins and the loss of your valuables. If the facility has actual security guards on the premises after dark, that would be a definite plus.
